Most important when planning your trip to India is to consider the visa requirements for your country. And it is best to apply atleast a month before you plan to travel to India. Just to avoid any last minute hassles and remain stress free.

Who doesn’t need a visa?

 

  • Citizens from Finland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Philippines and Vietnam can get a tourist visa on arrival
  • The on arrival visa is only available at Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai airports for a fee of US$60. The visa is a single entry and only valid for 30 days.

 

Who needs a visa?

 

  • All citizens from Europe (except those mentioned above) need to apply for a visa
  • Citizens from Switzerland
  • All US citizens
  • Australian citizens
  • Bhutan, Maldives and Nepal

 

Where to apply for a visa?

 

  • Please apply for your Indian visa in the Indian embassy of your hometown
  • If you need a multiple entry visa please do not forget to mention that in your application form
  • Usually a tourist visa is valid from 3-6 months, here it depends on your type of visa

 

What do you need for the visa application?

 

  • A valid passport which is valid for at least another 6 months
  • 2 identical biometrical photographs (in colour / size 5 cm x 5 cm)
  • The background of the photograph must be either white or a bright blue
  • Your face must be seen fully down till the upper parts of your shoulders

 

How to apply for a visa?

 

  • Since 2011 for visa applications only online procedures are accepted.
  • Just fill in the forms of the Indian embassy and take two prints
  • Sign the application and send both forms, your photos ( don’t stick it at the application form)your valid passport and a copy of your payment bill to the visa authorities
  • Don’t forget to write your full name at the back of the photos
  • If you send your application by post you have to pay the application fees in advance to your responsible authority

 

How long does the application process need?

 

  • If you apply via post it might take 2- 3 weeks
  • If you take your application to the authority directly it can be done within one week

 

Your maximum stay in India always depends on your visa type

It might be that different countries have slightly different requirements for the visa application
